Time Magazine March 17 2017: Discussion & Review

Free copies of Time magazine are some of the perks I receive in my commoner life. I get them merely from networking.  I guess it's sometimes true that it's not about how hard you work for something but who you know.  My friend's mom always brought home Time magazines that her employer no longer wanted. As my friend got busier and busier in school and at work, she no longer was able to keep up with the magazines her mom got from her boss who also never got the time to read all the free magazines she received...  One day I discovered that the recycling bin in my friend's garage was filled up with unread glossy magazines, so I asked to have them.  Since then, my friend's mom has been diligently saving the magazines for me to pick up.  I was never a subscriber of Time because I'm only interested in reading fashion magazines.  But now that I got them for free, I'm starting to enjoy reading them.  I don't read every page, I just read the articles that catch my eyes and curiosity.  One of such articles is the feature on the upcoming IPO of Snapchat, which I never signed up because my phone has too many apps already. It's valued to be $17 per share with no voting right.  Seriously?  Will you buy the shares?  Note that each share costs less than a pair of shoes?

If you are reading the same magazine, please feel  free to discuss in the following comment area... If you want a copy, please go to my clearance page where I make space for my bookshelf by getting rid of items I no longer want.

  1. A new solar system called The Trappist-1 system that contains 7 earthlike planets is found, according to the article "Searching for life on the newly discovered Earthlike planets". The scientists are now looking for life on such planets and astronomer Amaury Triaud from the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, England says it will take a few years or a few decades to find out whether there is life. I personally am not too eager to find out who live in such planets, because right now, we humans aren't having the greatest relationship among our different countries, I can't imagine how our cultures will clash with those who live in another planet. If you think dealing with the conflicts among different countries on earth is complicated, let's wait for our encounter with the aliens living in another solar system.

I'm glad that this newly discovered solar system is 39 light-years away, which means no human will ever get there alive because 1 light-year = 5.88 trillion miles. So we don't really have to worry about another episode of conflict caused by our John Smith from earth meeting the Pocahontas in another solar system.
